What you should know about interior waterproofing

Keep Water Out With Proven Interior Waterproofing

Interior waterproofing is one of the most effective and accessible ways to manage basement water intrusion in Middle Tennessee homes. Rather than stopping water at the exterior wall, an interior system captures water that has already entered the wall assembly and redirects it safely away from your foundation before it can spread across the floor or cause damage to walls and finished spaces.

Nashville basements are particularly vulnerable to moisture because of the region's heavy seasonal rainfall and variable groundwater levels. When soil becomes saturated after spring rains, hydrostatic pressure, the buildup of water pressure in saturated soil, forces water through any available path, wall cracks, floor-wall joints, porous block, and floor seams. An interior drainage system intercepts that water at the wall-floor joint and routes it to a sump pump for ejection.

Interior Waterproofing Components We Install

  • Perimeter interior drain systems: Installed at the base of the wall, these channels collect water as it enters and direct it to the sump basin
  • Sump pump systems: Submersible pumps with battery backup eject collected water away from the foundation
  • Vapor barriers and wall panels: Direct wall moisture to the drain channel rather than letting it spread across the floor
  • Waterproof coatings: Applied to concrete or block walls to reduce moisture migration through porous surfaces

$3,000–$10,000+ depending on basement size, drainage complexity, and sump pump configuration. Typical cost range for this service, depending on scope and site conditions.
When this isn't the fix: Interior waterproofing manages water intrusion but does not eliminate hydrostatic pressure against the wall. If structural wall movement is also present, the structural issue should be addressed first.

Interior Waterproofing questions

Interior waterproofing is designed to capture and redirect water, not to prevent it from entering the wall material itself. It intercepts water at the wall-floor joint and routes it to a sump pump before it spreads across the floor. In combination with wall panels or coatings, it can manage even significant water intrusion effectively.

We strongly recommend a battery backup sump pump system for every installation. During power outages, which often coincide with the heavy rainstorms that cause the most water intrusion, a battery backup keeps the system running. We will explain the backup options during your estimate.

The installation requires breaking the concrete floor along the perimeter to install the drain channel and typically takes one to three days depending on basement size. The work generates concrete dust and noise. We take steps to protect the rest of your home during the process. Most homeowners are back to normal use of the space within a day or two of completion.

Yes. Ground Up Foundation Repair backs our interior waterproofing installations with a warranty. Ask for full terms during your free inspection and estimate, warranty coverage and transferability will be explained in detail.

Yes. Once the system is installed and functioning correctly, you can finish the basement space over it. We recommend leaving maintenance access to the sump pump and basin. Drain channel systems are designed to work even when covered, but some configurations benefit from access panels.
