Polyurethane foam concrete lifting (also called polyjacking or foam jacking) is the modern replacement for traditional mudjacking. Where mudjacking injects a heavy cement-sand slurry that adds weight and can wash out over time, this method uses a two-component polyurethane foam that is injected as a liquid, expands to fill the void completely, and cures into a rigid, waterproof cellular structure that permanently supports the slab from beneath. At Ground Up Foundation Repair, we use polyurethane foam lifting for driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, patios, garage floors, and interior concrete slabs that have settled due to soil voids, erosion, or inadequate compaction. The foam is injected through 5/8-inch holes drilled through the slab at strategic locations. Once injected, the foam reaches working expansion within seconds and lifts the slab to the target level within minutes. Injection ports are patched with concrete caulk and the surface is ready for use immediately, no cure time required. Polyurethane foam is waterproof, does not wash out, does not add meaningful structural load, and does not compress further under normal loading conditions.

Polyurethane foam injection begins with a site assessment to locate the voids beneath the slab and identify the injection point pattern that will produce even, controlled lifting. Small 5/8-inch holes are drilled through the concrete at the mapped locations. A dual-component foam gun is inserted into each hole and a precisely measured shot of polyurethane foam is injected. The foam expands from liquid to approximately 25 times its liquid volume within seconds, filling the void and pressing upward against the underside of the slab. The technician monitors lift in real time, typically using a level or laser reference, and adjusts injection volume and sequence to achieve even, controlled raising without over-lifting. Once the target elevation is reached, injection stops and the foam cures to full hardness within 15 to 30 minutes. Drill holes are cleaned and filled with a color-matched concrete caulk. Site Assessment and Void Mapping

We inspect the sunken area, evaluate the degree of settlement and tilt, probe for hollow sound patterns, and determine injection point locations based on slab size, void distribution, and the lift needed. We verify that the slab is in a condition suitable for foam lifting rather than replacement.

Drill Hole Pattern Layout

Injection holes are marked at calculated positions across the slab. For typical residential slabs, holes are positioned 2 to 4 feet apart in a grid pattern optimized to distribute lift forces evenly and avoid stress concentrations at the drill points.

Core Drilling Through the Slab

A 5/8-inch rotary hammer bit is used to drill cleanly through the concrete at each marked location. Holes penetrate only the slab thickness and into the void space or base material below, they are kept as small as possible to minimize disruption to the slab surface.

Foam Injection and Lift Monitoring

The dual-component foam gun is inserted into each hole in the planned sequence. Foam is injected in controlled shots and allowed to expand. The technician monitors elevation with a digital level or string line reference and moves between injection points to produce even lift across the panel. The process is iterative, small amounts of foam injected, level checked, more foam added if needed, until the slab reaches the target elevation.

Port Patching and Surface Cleanup

Once all panels reach the correct elevation and the foam has cured, drill holes are cleaned of any foam that expanded into the hole and filled with a concrete caulk matched to the existing slab color. The surface is swept and left ready for immediate use.

Foam Injection for Concrete Voids

Foam injection for concrete void filling is a targeted, preventive application of polyurethane foam used to fill sub-slab voids before they cause visible settlement or slab failure. While polyjacking uses foam to actively lift an already-settled slab, void-filling foam injection is used where ground-penetrating radar or hollow-tap surveys have located a void beneath a slab that is still at grade. By filling the void while the slab is still level, we prevent the sudden drop that occurs when remaining support fails. Mudjacking, also called slabjacking or pressure grouting, is the traditional method of lifting settled concrete slabs. It works by pumping a slurry mixture of water, soil, and cement beneath the slab through holes drilled in the concrete. As the slurry fills voids and builds pressure, it lifts the slab.
