Drainage Assessment and Layout
We walk the site to identify water sources, flow paths, and high-saturation areas. We determine the optimal trench location and routing to intercept water before it reaches the problem area, confirm that a gravity outlet is available, and mark the installation path.
Trenching
We excavate the drainage trench along the planned route at the designed width and depth. Depth is determined by how far below grade the water source is and the slope needed to maintain gravity flow to the outlet. Typical depths range from 18 inches to 4 feet depending on application.
Filter Fabric and Stone Bed Preparation
The trench is lined with a permeable filter fabric to prevent native soil from migrating into the stone bed and clogging the drain over time. A layer of clean, washed gravel is placed at the bottom of the trench to set the pipe at the correct elevation.
Perforated Pipe Installation
A perforated PVC drain pipe is placed in the stone bed at the correct slope to ensure gravity flow throughout the system. Pipe size is selected based on the drainage volume the system must handle. Cleanout access points are installed at changes in direction and at regular intervals for long runs.
Stone Backfill and Fabric Wrap
