Bouncy floors from moisture-damaged joists will worsen over time. In severe cases, fully decayed joists can fail under concentrated loads. We recommend an inspection whenever bounce has changed noticeably or if soft spots are developing.
Subfloor screws address squeaking caused by the subfloor separating from the joist, but they do not restore stiffness to a damaged or overspan joist. The structural repair has to happen in the crawl space.
An average sistering repair, attaching new dimensional lumber alongside each damaged joist, takes a crew one to two days depending on access conditions and the number of joists involved.
