How we install crawl space insulation installation and replacement
Old Insulation Removal
Deteriorated, wet, moldy, or pest-contaminated existing insulation is removed from between the floor joists or off the foundation walls. Removal ensures that old material does not trap moisture under new insulation and that the substrate is clean before new material is applied.
Surface Preparation
Framing members and wall surfaces are inspected and any mold treatment or structural repairs are completed before new insulation is installed. New insulation applied over untreated mold or damaged wood does not address the underlying condition.
Foundation Wall Insulation (Encapsulation Approach)
Rigid foam board is cut and installed against the interior foundation walls and secured with appropriate adhesive and mechanical fasteners. Seams are taped or foam-sealed. The band joist area is sealed with closed-cell spray foam for both insulation and air sealing.
Subfloor or Floor Joist Insulation (Alternative Approach)
Where floor joist insulation is the specified approach, closed-cell spray foam is applied to the underside of the subfloor between the joists. The foam adheres directly to the sheathing, does not sag, and creates both an insulation layer and an air barrier.
Integration with Vapor Barrier and Dehumidifier
